This video shows what happens to students at Gyeonggi Technical School near our apartment when they arrive late to school. If you look carefully you will see some girls doing deep knee bends. They were also doing push-ups and were required to hold their arms above their heads for extended periods but I missed videoing those activities. The staff member supervising them also delivered a mild slap to the legs or arms of each with a switch as they arrived. One of our U.S. missionary friends has served nearly one third of his life in one missionary capacity or another in Korea and he says that the Korean way of raising children is diametrically opposite to ours. Young children (especially boys) have almost no restrictions placed upon their behavior until age 8. Then, as they mature, their life and behavior becomes more and more restricted. By the time they are college age they face far more controls upon their life and behavior than do young adults in the U.S.
